This is simply one of hundreds [or thousands] of Dragon Consecration Rituals. Everyone
who has worked with Dragons has done it; one way or another. Some have done it
subconsciously, while others have written elaborate rites, but one is no more effective
than the other. It is a Magick User's preference which matters and sets the rule. If it feels
right to YOU, then for YOU, that is the right way. For the next person, different factors
will be involved; different perspectives, ideals, baggage [psychological and spiritual], etc. will
influence what "feels" right for them.
The first thing I need to address is tools. Dragon Magick and its practice requires a different set of magickal tools than what you would normally use for ritual magick. There is a cauldron, yes. But it is immense, preferably with dragons emblazoned on either side. For lack of this, a good old-fashioned fire pit will suffice. The wand is more a staff of Rowan [or whatever floats your dragon's boat, if you are in communication with him/her] ornately decorated in dragons, dragon script, rubbed with dragon's blood, etc. It should also be topped with a dragon. I find that gear shifter dragons are wonderful, as they have the screw hole in the bottom and you can use a plant hanger bolt to attach it to the staff top. Instead of an athame, you will need a sword. Something comfortably drawn, swung, and held. Dragons should be the decoration of choice. A bowl of stones should be on your altar. I use a dragon holding a potpouri bowl as My stone bowl. You will need a dragon incense holder, dragon candlesticks, dragons, dragons, dragons. Even your altar cloth should be decorated with dragons. Dragons do things BIG, so instead of a bell, there is a gong; again, decorated with dragons. When working singularly with dragons, I also ritualy bathe in a specially blended soap of dragon's blood and patchouli. Consecration is a serious rite, and should be done just before the dedication rite. One must, in My mind, be consecrated before one steps into the circle to be dedicated. Consecration oil is prepared. There are a thousand recipes in a thousand books. Pick one which suits you and your dragon. The petitioner to be consecrated ritualy bathes, the circle is swept with the besom, consecrated, and the salt is blessed and consecrated as in other magickal rites. Everyone to be involved in the ceremony enters the area and the circle is cast, the quarters are called, and the gods of Dragonkind are invited to join the ceremony. I've never held with demanding anything of a Deity. I feel that is the height of arrogance and therefore deserving of whatever untoward events which comes from that practice. I don't like giving rites to do because I feel that all rites should be written by the practitioner who is conducting the rite. Those who are more experienced sometimes have a better experience when they just let the proper words come to them at the time of the rite. But just for the sake of getting you started, here goes. The petitioner lowers to his/her knees before the HP/s. With the Consecration Oil, the HP/s draws a solar cross over the third eye of the petitioner, followed by a circle enclosing it. From this consecration rite, proceed directly to the Dedication. |
