Dedication to the Dragon [or any other entity/deity] is sacred and serious. Revelry should ensue, but should not be present during this rite.

Dedication oil and incense is prepared. There are a thousand recipes in a thousand books. Pick one which suits you and your dragon. If you do not find anything to your liking, perhaps some dragon's breath and/or dragon's blood will suffice.

The petitioner to be dedicated should be fully consecrated first. This rite is therefore to be performed inside the circle already cast, in the company of the quarters, guardians/watchers, entities/deities already present.

I don't like giving rites to do because I feel that all rites should be written by the practitioner who is conducting the rite. Those who are more experienced sometimes have a better experience when they just let the proper words come to them at the time of the rite. But just for the sake of getting you started, here goes.

With the dedication oil, a solar cross is marked upon the heart of the dedicant, then a circle is drawn around it, and a kiss placed above the circle on the forehead, by the HP/s.

The dragon gong is struck three times, and when the vibrations are again still, the HP/s begins...

"Comes ________, a child of Magick; a child of Dreams. For as we are children of Magick, we understand that without the ability to imagine and dream, Magick could not exist. We could not exist as we are. All things would falter and die, as the human body and psyche will wither and die without dreams. As the human spirit will wither and die without dreams.

Dragon is in his/her heart, as he/she is part of the Dragon. Dragon is in his/her mind as he/she meditates on the Dragon. Dragon is in his/her soul as he/she is one with the Dragon.

_________, a child of Magick; a child of Dreams, beseeches those of Dragonkind to accept his/her pledge of devotion and study of the Dragon and the ways of Dragonkind. Please, we entreat, accept him/her as a child of the Dragon for the betterment of all who would know the ages old wisdoms of Dragonkind.

As you will it, So Mote It Be!"

The gong is struck once more, and when the vibrations are again still, the first adornment of the dedicant is placed on his/her brow [or about the neck, wrist, finger, whatever] by the HP/s.

The Deities are thanked, then the quarters and other entities/beings/deities who attended, are thanked and dismissed, and the circle is gathered together and earthed.

This rite was written for Coven/Weyr use, but can be easily adapted for use by solitaries. As with any rite and/or spell, those written yourself are always best, stronger, and have more meaning to you, the practitioner when they come from your heart rather than the pages of ANY book or website. Please, please use spells and rites by others as a guideline ONLY and write something of your own heart! You can't work someone else's Magick. You have to work your own!
