the first step is to go shopping. Find some herbal soaps which will suit your need...bayberry for money, rose for love, and so on. Spoil yourself. Remember, this is a magickal tool, not just bathsoap. Scented oils and bath beads work well too. This is not just for the women either, guys. It greatly adds to the power to utilize these methods.
Some "puritists" claim that bathing in all naturals or water only is best, but I simply have discovered that is not the case. My results have been swift and undeniable using my methodology for the ritual bath. Using plain "tap" water, the results are iffy at best. BUT, this is only my experience; things do tend to work differently based almost completely upon what the practitioner believes is best for him/her. So use your own judgement.
Next, you want a pure environment. I'm not saying you don't clean your bathroom, but clean it again for the ritual bath. Place a few candleholders about the tub and use candles whose colors denote the spell or rite you will be performing later. {ie, blue=healing, red=lust, etc.}
the next step is to shower, washing your body and hair and rinsing the tub out afterward. Now fill the tub with water hot as you can comfortably stand and add your oils/beads/bubbles. Go turn off the ringer on the phone and secure the doors and windows and get into the tub.
Once that is all taken care of, get comfortable and lie back in the tub. One of those tub pillows comes in very handy here. Close your eyes and let your mind go over what you want in life; your goals and dreams. Then start to pinpoint the things that would really make a difference. These pinpoints are the area in which your magick should be directed.
Feel the warmth of the water taking the essential oils, or the herbal ingredients from the soap you've chosen, into your body...penetrating the pores of your skin and becoming part of you.
then concentrate one final time on the pinpoint you've chosen to work on first, and rinse off.
this usually takes me about a good hour. NOTE: If you are of legal age, a glass of wine or your sedative of choice, is most helpful here.
Ritual bathing is a luxurious treat to yourself, as well as a prepatory step for performing magick, charging yourself or a magickal item, or just centering your inner focus on a problem or ailment.
this is where I use the cucumber eye pads and apply a good moisturizing face mask, my hair wrapped in a towel, the lights off, the candles lit, maybe the radio playing low in the next room. Sounds absolutely dreamy doesn't it? Well it is.
