The Magickal Charge, AKA: creative visualization; is at the very heart of Magick. Without the ability to clearly envision your desired end result, your magickal workings will neither perform properly, nor will they have the strength they will need to hit the targeted goal.

If you don't know how to visualize, it's simply a matter of using your imagination. If you can close your eyes and "picture" anything, you're visualizing. The clearer the "picture," the stronger the visualization, the more successful the working.

  • Charging Yourself
  • Sometimes, it is necessary to recharge the old grey Delco we call a brain, without waiting for the forces of nature to do it naturally. I find that obtaining a good charge just before working any spell or rite greatly lends power to the working itself.

    Find a quiet place free of danger of intrusion by phone, a knock at the door, kids, or your animals, and sit, eyes closed. Find a quiet center and just relax, breathing with your abdomen and not your chest. {It is good to practice this all the time, and not just when charging; it lets the good air into your body's very center and is much healthier.}

Envision the tiny pinpoints of light which circle and waft about us every moment of every day. See them as the color blue for health, or the color green if you want to attract money, or the non-color white to bring purifying energies to you. See them all about you, penetrating all physical objects, swimming about by the thousands.

Now slowly begin to call them to you. They're sentient; they will come. They gently begin to cover you in their light, until you are virtually a glowing mass of energy. Using your abdominal breathing, begin taking the light into you; good air in, bad air out. Say this to yourself if it helps.

When you've envisioned all the energies around you having been taken into you entirely, you begin imagining that you feel the energies coursing through you; the tips of your fingers, your toes, the top of your head, etc. Once done, you "close the door" so to speak by taking a sip of pleasing liquid. You may now open your eyes.

  • Charging an Object
  • Hold the object in your hands, and concentrate heavily on what you want it to do. Visualize the object performing its purpose; see it doing its job. Visualize the energies of what you want flowing from your heart and mind, down your arms, through your hands and flooding into the object with your power of intent.

Everything a magick user employs in his/her daily magickal life should be charged with magickal energies.

The foilage growing inside the home, the crystal necklace 'round your neck, your classring, your home, your bed, your tools, your books, literally everything should be charged with the appropriate energies to suit the object's purpose.

Ferns are grown on the front porches of THOUSANDS of homes, yet they know not why they do it. Truth is, they do it because their mother did it...and their mother did it, because HER mother did it...but I'll bet that her mother's mother knew why...do you? Ferns are to be planted by the front door to protect the home from wayward and errant magickal energies. The fern on your front porch should be charged with protection energies.

And the heather beside your great aunt Mary's mail box? Planted beside the mail box, and charged properly, heather is to ensure that good news always finds its way to your home.

I bought a dreamcatcher, but I still have bad dreams. Why? Because it wasn't properly charged before it was placed over your bed.

The rosemary sprinkled into your family's food should be charged with prosperity energies first.

The little pinch of salt added at the table, or while cooking, should be charged with cleansing energies first.

Why is money green? Because that's the color of prosperity.

Why are earth tones still so popular for the living room? Because the color brown denotes family and unity within the home.

Why are there sea shells in practically every bathroom in practically every home in the US? Because that is the room of water. It's natural.

Why are hundreds of thousands of kitchens yellow? Because that's the color of health.

These things can all be charged for their original, intended purpose...and should be.

Why should there be few corners in a magick user's home? Because magick users generally prefer circles. This is why most of us instinctively place furnishings diagonally in corners. It creates a good, general flow to the room.

  • Enchanting (or Charging) Herbs And Other Objects
  • Prior to using ingredients in magick, they should be enchanted. Enchantment aligns the vibrations of the items involved with your magickal need. Thus it is a process which increases the effectiveness of your spell, ritual or magickal work.

Enchantment may be performed on a single item, or a mixutre of items, but should not be done until moments before the item(s) are to be used. When several items are needed for a working, they may be enchanted together as a mixture, or singly a each item is introduced into the mixture or onto the scene (such as candles, incense and the like).

A preliminary enchantment may be performed if the item is collected from the wilds, a garden, or the local market. While actually cutting an herb for a specific spell, the need should be stressed, as should the plant's role in fulfilling that need like...
I gather you, jasmine, herb of the Sun, to increase my finances.

This begins the process of enchantment, although it is only preliminary. The equipment is simple: a plain wooden or ceramic bowl, two candle holders, and a supply of colored candles.

Place the bowl in the center of your altar, the candle holders with candles of the correct COLOR for your working, on either side. The herbs to be enchanted should be placed around the bowl in their containers. Light the candles and still your mind. Unplug 0the phone and lock the door. Darken the room of all artificial illumination. Enchant items and perform all magick only when you are alone and will be free from interruption.

Pour the needed amount of dried herb (or whatever you are enchanting) into the bowl. Sit or stand calmly and gaze into the herb. Sense its vibrations awaiting within the leaves and flowers and stems; see them emerging from the plant, or lying in wait. Lean toward the bowl and place your power hand (usually the one you write with) within it, touching the herb. Leave it motionless for a few seconds. Visualize your need strongly.

Run your fingers through the herb. Still strongly visualizing your need, send it into the herb. Feel your fingertips charging the herb with energy. If you find trouble holding the image in your mind, chant simple words that match your need, such as...
    Fern, fern, protect my home.

Chant this endlessly under your breath. As you run your fingers through the herb feel them infusing the plant with your need. When the herb is tingling with power or when you sense that the enchantment is complete, remove your hand. The plant is now enchanted.

If there are other things to be used, add them one at a time, re-enchanting the mixture with each addition. If you wish to enchant herbs or items to be used separately, remove the enchanted item from the bowl and wipe it clean with a dry towel. Replace the candles with colors appropriate to the new work and repeat the procedure.

When performing magick, each and every single component of the spell should be charged or enchanted. The altar, the candles, the candle holders, each herb-individually, oils, incenses, tools...everything.

This is the Magickal Charge many, many generations of magick users have neglected to share...and this is how to do it.
