In our Magickal lives, from time to time, the need for magickal items comes into play.
This can be anything from the small sachet carried in your pocket for luck, the
car monster used to protect your vehicle,
to your Magickal wand, your child's dreamcatcher or a healing quilt for your grandmother.
No matter where your area of talent lies, you can make your own Magickal items. There is something
out there for everyone. If your area of expertise is in drawing, then create talismans using symbols and sigils and place them throughout the
house. Frame them and present them to those who visit your home, as mere artwork. "Oh that! That is the
Summerian symbol for luck. I ran across it the other day on the internet and I just liked the way it looked." Smile a genuine
smile and move along to another topic. If you can crochet or knit, quilt, paint, have a talent for woodworking, carving,
or words, you can make something Magickal. Even if you do not possess these skills, you can still do it. If you have
a talent for color-coordinating, you can create something highly symbolic and completely magickal out of colored pieces of cloth,
swirled together and arranged around a framed picture. Choose your colors wisely after first divining what result you wish
to achieve.
That is the first step in the creation of your magickal item; the determination of your Magickal need. Are there problems in Yyour home,
or life? What are they? What will fix them? Is there some great and/or pressing physical need? and to whom does the need pertain? Is it
the entire family? or a single member?
Next, you will need to determine what form of magickal item will suit the need. The level of assistance needed would be a good place to begin.
Do you need a permanent magickal item, a temporary one, or one which will last only for a few weeks?
For temporary items, I suggest a sachet; a small packet of herbs, stones, oils and other materials designed to create
the effect you wish, all wrapped up nice and snug in a small colored pouch you've either made yourself (recommended) or
one of the many wonders Yyou can find at WalMart. *sl*
Next, match the item to the Pperson or thing which needs it. If your young child needs inner strength, you wouldn't want to create
a war-hammer and hang it next to his bed. Most likely, he'll use it to break out the window and wander out at night. If your grandmother
has arthritis pain, you wouldn't want to make a sigil which hangs on the wall; you would need a healing blanket, a blessed
walking stick or enchanted socks. Is the item to be a charm to protect your mate, spouse or lover? Then create a magickal item
which will easily travel with them. Try making a keychain or some other such creation
which will travel well, and is small and unobtrusive; adorn it with the sigils of protection and use those colors which mean protection, to you.
Once you've chosen the item to create, to whom it will be aligned and what form it will take, the next step is determining the supplies you will need
to create the item. Draw a small diagram or write a detailed description of what you will make and what it will do. This serves three important purposes.
It helps you get your mind together around the task at hand, helps you to envision the item you will make and begins the creation process by actually putting it down on
paper. As you diagram or detail the item, on the side of the work, make a list of each ingredient needed. When you have finished, assess your financial
position and make substitutions where necessary to achieve the final goal.
Next, you will sit down quietly and write a small intonation; a spell which is short and to the point, to help guide the energies into the item and tell it what
its purpose is. For example...For a baby blanket designed to protect the infant from SIDS or other untoward events which are
fairly common with babies, you could use something like...
Spirits, Guardians and Powers that Be,
Bestow Your Powers to protect my baby.
Something short and to the point.
When you are ready to begin construction of your magickal item, you should treat the process just as if it were a spell, as that is exactly what it is.
Ritual bath should be drawn and used, as well as the psychic cleansing of the workspace. Cleanse, charge and imbue each component with the strength of
your Magick. Load each individual piece and part with the power of your intent. When you are done and ready to begin the actual construction of the item, begin
intoning your spell. Chant it during the entire process to direct the energies and bind them into the item. Remember to envision the item as a completed
work, which is doing its job; the job for which you have created it.
Once done, consecrate and dedicate your item using a basic consecration and dedication ritual.
Finally, you have created your magickal item. The last step for now, is to determine its placement. If the item
is to keep your child(ren) safe, then place it somewhere out of reach in your child's room. If it was to help your
Mate, then place it with their belongings. If it was to help your mother, grandfather, whomever, place it with them.
If it was to protect the house/home from outside influences, then place it somewhere prominent within the living room, family room or lounge room.
And so forth.
And voilas! You have created a truly magickal item for your magickal home.
